Local History Talk / Ladies of Leigh

It is 1940 and old friends, Louie and Annie are listening to the radio. ‘What if….’, they wonder, ‘There were programmes about Leigh’s most talented and daring daughters including: an Edwardian female entrepreneur, an award-winning sculptor, a generous benefactor, and not one - but two - Olympic gymnasts!’ An imaginative investigation of the obstacles and opportunities experienced by women and how they overcame and made the most of them only to be forgotten.

Local History Talk / No Bravery Without Fear

It is spring 1919 and next-door neighbours, Mrs Mitchell and Mrs Brown, normally the best of friends, are airing their washing and their very different opinions about the recent war. In particular, the involvement of two local men, Alfred Wilkinson VC of Leigh, and Arthur Turtle Conscientious Objector of Tyldesley.

What a fabulous talk for the Over Hulton Heritage Group May Guest Speaker Night. It was of little consequence that you may not be a former pupil of the school - this talk was made so interesting and was so well presented we were all enthralled. Well done Julie - and Corrie!"
